Stefan Zuniga, Pro Line Shipping: “Sea freight is our business – worldwide and reliable”

Mr. Zuniga, you recently became Managing Director of Pro Line Shipping. What attracted you to this position?

I have been with CREMER for more than 20 years and have helped build and develop the shipping division through many stages. Our focus is on shaping logistics, not just managing it. The opportunity to help shape the Shipping Competence Center for the whole of CREMER is a challenge that we are happy to take on.

What exactly does your department do?

When it comes to sea freight at CREMER, our team is in demand. We support many companies within the group in all aspects of maritime logistics: from CREMER ERZKONTOR and CREMER STEEL to CREMER OLEO and Nordgetreide to the global CREMER companies such as CREMER Singapore. Whether it's ship selection, contract drafting, port logistics, or claims management, we accompany the transports from A to Z. We also handle all marine insurance for CREMER.

Whether it is ship selection, contract drafting, port logistics, or claims management, we accompany the transports from A to Z.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

The fact that we often start from scratch and build a complete transport solution. 4,000–6,000 tons of minerals from South Africa to somewhere in the Italian Adriatic? We'd love to! Complexity is not an obstacle for us, but a motivation. We love it when we find solutions as a team that really help our units.

How does your team work?

We are small, powerful, and everyone can do everything. This is extremely important in an industry where there are virtually no holidays. Ships are always sailing. That's why we place great value on commitment, flexibility, and a good network. Everyone knows what's going on and everyone can step in for each other.

Complexity is not an obstacle for us, but a motivation.

How do you support the other CREMER companies?

We deal with every commercial department at CREMER when it comes to shipping. We take care of the entire process of ship transport and are always happy to answer any questions. We help, train, and coordinate. We also work closely with colleagues and insurers in the area of insurance.

What topics are currently shaping your business?

Digitalization is a big topic. In my opinion, platforms and AI are exciting, but they cannot yet replace a good network or in-depth expertise. Sustainability is also important to us, even if it often does not yet play a major role outside Europe. And we are working on making even better use of CREMER's market power in the field of logistics.

We are working on making even better use of CREMER's market power in the field of logistics.

What exactly do you mean by market power?

We move millions of tons per year within the group. If we make these volumes more transparent and think collectively, we can take a completely different approach to shipping companies and other service providers. We save costs, can negotiate add-ons, and create added value for our customers and partners. That is a goal we are working toward.

How do you see the future of shipping at CREMER?

We don't want to think of logistics as just from the port of loading to the port of unloading. Our goal is to accompany supply chains from start to finish – including warehousing, volume bundling, and just-in-time planning. When we combine goods flows from different units, we create real synergies.

Our goal is to accompany supply chains from start to finish.

What motivates you personally in your work?

I like complexity and responsibility. We are close to the action and can achieve real results through good planning. And I am delighted when our expertise within the group becomes visible and helps the individual companies.

What are your hopes for your time as Managing Director at Pro Line Shipping?

That we continue to grow and expand our network. We prefer to work in the background, but when we are needed, we are there - and we give it our all.

Thank you very much for the insights into your work.
