“Combining Theory and Practice”: Janne Papke on his dual study program at CREMER
Janne, you’re studying Business Administration in a dual program. How has your time at CREMER started?
Very well! I was warmly welcomed and immediately integrated into the team. During the first few weeks, I completed an introductory internship to get to know different departments and business units. My first station is now in Supply Chain Management at CREMER OLEO.
What are your tasks there?
Right now, I’m getting to know the ERP system, supporting the team in managing warehouse and transport processes, and becoming familiar with CREMER OLEO’s extensive product portfolio. Before joining, I honestly didn’t have a clear idea of what oleochemicals were – now I know they’re part of our everyday lives, found in cosmetics, food, and pharmaceuticals.
You recently joined two colleagues on a business trip to the Netherlands and Belgium.
Yes, I had the chance to accompany Katherine Wienold, Team Lead Oleo SCM Warehousing, and Felix Kircheis, Oleo SCM Performance & Relations Manager, on a trip to visit two warehouse partners. It was an amazing learning experience for me.

What did you experience on-site?
We first drove to Antwerp, where our initial meeting took place. I was able to sit in on the annual review between CREMER OLEO and the warehouse operator.
The warehouse itself was impressive: high ceilings, wide aisles, multiple levels filled with goods – and right in the middle, our own products such as fatty acids, fatty alcohols, and soap noodles. I learned a lot about how our goods are stored and the high standards that must be maintained.
And then you continued on to the Netherlands?
Exactly. The next day, we visited a second warehouse, located between Apeldoorn and Amersfoort. This site was even more specialized – not only do they store raw materials, but they also handle the filling process. The facility operates under strict hygiene and safety regulations, and we had to wear protective clothing to enter. CREMER OLEO stores products like MCT oil and Cremerlin there. I also saw our glycerine being transferred directly from a tank truck – a fascinating moment.
In Belgium and the Netherlands, I got to see the products I’m currently working with in real life. That made everything feel very real and tangible.
What impressed you the most?
The professionalism of both warehouse operations, how well everything was organized, and how friendly and open everyone was. Everyone took the time to answer my questions and explain things. And what really stood out: I got to see the products I’m currently working with in real life. For example, labels I had created in the system were right there on the actual containers. That made everything feel very real and tangible.
What do you enjoy most about your dual study program?
I really appreciate the practical experience and learning how everything connects within the company. It’s exciting to see how all the departments work together. This program is perfect for me because I don’t just study theory – I gain real insights into the business and can apply what I learn right away.

What’s next for you?
I’ll continue working full time at CREMER until January, and then the academic part of my program will begin at HSBA Hamburg. At CREMER, I have a mentor who is also in the dual program and one year ahead of me. We meet regularly for lunch and talk about both the company and university – that’s been a great support. I’m also really looking forward to getting to know more departments across the company.
Thanks for the conversation, and all the best as you continue your journey!
