Heike Schröder, Head of Tax at CREMER: “Taxes are taken from the heart of life”
By the way, the team is currently looking for reinforcements. You can find more information about the position of Tax Manager (m/f/d) here.
Ms. Schröder, what fascinates you about your job?
I think taxes are at the heart of life. Everyone has to deal with it, whether as a company or as an employee. What fascinates me about the subject is how economic thinking and the legal framework come together. I've always had a great affinity for figures and I like recognizing and implementing structures.
What makes working in the Tax department at CREMER special?
We are a small but powerful team of three people, but we work on a very broad spectrum: national and international tax issues, VAT, transfer pricing and much more.
We work closely with Legal and Finance & Accounting, and our day-to-day work is very self-determined. We are not a traditional corporate tax department in which everyone is responsible for one area. We work in a generalist way.
Our team of three is small but powerful.
What does a typical working day in your department look like?
There are of course fixed deadlines, for example from the tax office. But otherwise you can organize your day yourself. Our weekly jour fixe is set, and we are also very open in our communication. I spend around two thirds of my time in the office and am always available for the team.
CREMER with its many business units is quite complex. It requires curiosity. You get a lot of insights and responsibility. Those who start with us are well trained, but also quickly have their own topics.
Those who start with us, quickly have their own topics and responsibilities.
You are currently looking for reinforcement for your team. What should the new team member bring to the table?
You should enjoy thinking along, communicate well and not be afraid to ask questions. Our topics are challenging and exciting.
Good written and spoken English is important. We often work on international projects, especially with contacts from the USA and Singapore.
I also appreciate employees who work pragmatically but precisely. We have routines and there are always new tasks.
What do you think speaks for CREMER?
CREMER is a company with a Hanseatic tradition and an international focus. We are growing steadily, have flat hierarchies and many interesting tasks. If you're looking for a variety of tasks in a family business, you've come to the right place.
We give you a lot of insights - internationally too.
Ms. Schröder, what do you like best about your job?
I like it when everything comes together in the end: When the annual financial statements are complete, when the tax return is submitted, when the balance sheet is finalized. I'm also happy every time I can help - straightforward and without a lot of detours.
Thank you very much for the interview and the insights into your work.
